In addition to its dramatic aesthetics, the Al Hamra tower is practical in design: its spiraling contours ensure optimum views while the stone- clad walls provide protection against the intense desert sun.

The concept for this tower was holistic, the goal being to
combine a highly distinctive form with practical, regular occupied spaces in a structure in which all
primary elements would be functional
and correspond directly to the architectural solution. The reinforced-concrete
frame provides organized, regular office
spaces, while the punched reinforced-concrete shear wall on the south facade
controls heat gain and light in interior
spaces while efficiently resisting gravity
and lateral loads. The Al Hamra Firdous
Tower opened in November 2011. CE
2008 and is currently based in the firm’s New York City office.
